At its core, Press Start is a social initiative that is rooted in the belief that meaningful storytelling opportunities should never be limited by geography, language, or institutional privilege. This project aims to expand access to journalism training for students studying in public or NGO-run schools, especially those who wish to write and publish in regional languages.
We create accessible toolkits that include a step-by-step guide from concept to implementation alongside newspaper layout templates and basic resource-planning guides to help schools manage publications sustainably within constrained budgets. Through this initiative, we wish to demystify the process of founding and running a school publication. By providing virtual training sessions, collaborating with partner NGOs, creating financial support for printing, and also creating a network of working journalists to connect with the students, we at Press Start work to remove the economic and structural barriers and create spaces for young people from underprivileged communities to author, publish, and share their own stories and narratives
